Why Social Work?

Social workers support individuals with disability to achieve their goals, build capacity, resolve areas of concern and enhance their wellbeing and community participation. Social workers can provide guidance within NDIS processes.

How do I get funding for a Social Worker?

Social work can be accessed through your NDIS plan or privately for a fee. We can work with individuals, guardians and family support networks to design and implement a personalised service.

What about the Clients?

As NDIS participants with psychosocial disabilities face increased complexity in their support needs, the need for effective coordination of supports is becoming more and more important. Social workers are able to provide support coordination services which help clients connect with the complex array of regular and specialist service providers in a community that is increasingly fragmented. This can involve resolving points of crisis, developing capacity and resilience within the family system and coordinating informal, mainstream and funded supports.

Our social work team are experienced in working with individuals, their guardians, and other support systems to design and implement individualised action plans to bring about positive change. This approach is grounded in a framework of client empowerment and works to help people overcome the personal, social or environmental barriers that limit their wellbeing and community participation. We work with participants to develop, coordinate and manage their NDIS plan to meet their goals and achieve their aspirations.

What about Qualifications?

NDIS social workers play a crucial role in developing support plans unique to the individual life goals of their clients. We have qualified social workers recognised by the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) who are trained to provide best practice psychosocial services and counselling.

The NDIS requires that all providers who work with participants have a valid NDIS worker screening clearance. This is a national check that ensures the safety and security of people with disability. It is available through your state or territory government service department. This clearance is also required for employees of registered NDIS providers. It is essential to have this clearance before you can begin working in the NDIS.

Experience

Social worker Students must be capable of explaining complex topics in terms that clients can understand. They must also be able to work with people from different cultures and backgrounds, which requires flexibility in communication techniques. They may also have to write reports and other documents for supervisors.
